About Us

ABOUT US – Transient Children of Alachua County (TCAC) is a solutions-oriented journalism project led by six students enrolled in Social Media and Social Responsibility at the University of Florida’s College of Journalism and Communications. Our goal is to tell the stories of children who qualify for McKinney-Vento services in the Alachua County School District because they lack a fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residence.

Put more simply, we hope to amplify the voices of local children without a reliable place to sleep at night. Due to the often temporary nature of homelessness, as well as the unfortunate stigma attached to the word, we chose to describe these kids as “transient.”

But it doesn’t stop with journalism. TCAC hopes to raise awareness, gather resources and provide solutions.
